There was a programme called SLK which has established by the government to reduce this issue.
Save Lanka Kids (SLK) was started
in 1997 as an advocacy arm of CCS to stand up for the rights of children and
youth, in the CCS location as well as nationally. Over the years SLK has
become a very active, hands-on, radical, passionate arm of CCS, making a
life-changing impact on many young people.
SLK continues to work in the area
of education of children’s rights, sexual child abuse, child labour and child
exploitation. SLK has developed a number of mass media campaigns using press,
TV, radio and other media to convey messages of prevention and protection of
children. Educational curricula to empower children to be safe from potential
risks have been published and used in training of teachers, volunteers,
parents and peers. Among some of these produced in 2006 was a book for
children on the tsunami and a DVD for youth on HIV/AIDS.
