Hello Friends, Welcome to my new blog. This is aout a main
social issue that Srilanka faces today. Not only sri lanka. Most of the developing
countries. Like India, Phillipenes, Thailand and so on.
So, lets move on to the topic now.
Who is a "street child? Well, I can mention that as, - a homeless child especially
one forsaken or orphaned; in addition to that "street children beg or
steal in order to survive". how interesting Ha ! but it is not thing
choose by them-self.Unfortunately faith choose them to that..they have to
living on the streets for many reasons, including difficult social situations
at home, often cause by parental unemployment, alcoholism, violence and
abuse. And also i got some Unbelievable numbers about Street children from
" World Childhood Foundation-USA "
Do you believe that
100 million children are estimated living in the
streets around the world.
dear my college I think that's best chance to wake up and ask our self really Who are they, what are the things may cause , what we can do for them...

Further, alarming level of facts found with a study
conducted by Dr. Rohana Laxman Piyadasa of University of Kelaniya, Department
of mass Communication, for four months (Jan 2004 - Apr. 2004) and data was
collected on number of children living on the streets in 100 urban and suburban
areas around Sri Lanka.
It showed that most of those children were under the age of 18, living full time on the street with no permanent address, no reliable connection to a family and most of all, exposed to child abuse a crime. Around 1043 children have been identified in 100 major cities. The majority of them were boys, numbering 668 and the number of girls was 374.
Poverty, the death of parents, or the necessity of supporting their families has driven these otherwise bright and lively children to the streets.

As we all know, ones below the
age of 18yrs come under the category of children and among them the ones below
12 are the most crucial. “Street children” can be defined in few aspects;
- · Those who have no families or blood relations.
- · Those who have no prominent place to live. (house to
reside)
- · Those who had been purposely left out from parents.
- · Those who “inherit the streets” due to their street
parents. (beggars, gypsies etc)
When thinking about these street
children there is a vast untold, hidden, dark misery in their lives. But i must
mention that, there are children who “love” the street life. They never want to
get rid from it. They have no feeling about the future, do not like to get
educated, do not like to do a job one day, instead they prefer responsibilities
free, living cost extremely low, no future to think of and duties free street
life. For that mentality of them, their parents or peers’ attitudes too
influence.
The misery in their lives is, they have no proper education,
so no future. They have no way to face the society, to mingle with others as
they have no social stratum as others. It’s the most influential reason for
them to be street children forever, because they fear the so called, “high
class society”.
